Since coffee is an essential part of our morning routine, many people have difficulty finding the perfect cup. Lattes are usually the best option because they are easy to make and taste delicious with a bit of creamer or milk. But how do you make one at home? Many baristas use an espresso machine (like those for under $1.000) to make their lattes. But it can be much easier than you think if you have the right tools. You also need to have skills such as understanding the Coffee-to-Milk ratio.

A single shot of espresso is only about 1 ounce, while a standard 4-ounce coffee mug requires between 8 and 12 ounces of milk. Understand how much milk you need for making latte. Baristas also use glass, ceramic, or other non-porous containers to serve a latte to avoid unwanted flavors absorbed from the container material. Though the name might come from the Italian word for milk, people do not consider it an espresso-based drink. In this article, we shall learn how to make a latte perfectly in your kitchen!

How to Make a Latte with an Espresso Machine

How to Make a Latte Recipe at Home

If you want a perfect way to start your morning off, then this is just what you need. Lattes are a great drink because you can prepare them in under one minute and with any milk or flavorings that fit your taste buds. One thing to note when making a latte at home, though, is that lemon juice will cause it not to foam up as well, so if you want more bubbles, then try using some flavored syrup instead. Follow the steps below and learn how to make a latte with an espresso machine.

Grinding

It is essential to grind beans for espresso right before use. Beans used should be ground medium-fine and its consistency be like granulated sugar. A fine powder will produce a thicker crema, while a less finely ground one will have more foam but much less crema. An ideal grinder setting for producing a precise grind would be six on a scale from 1 (coarse) to 10 (very fine), although each machine may work with slightly different settings. Most machines come pre-programmed with the appropriate set already programmed in, though users may need to experiment a bit to find their perfect espresso's flavor.

Steaming and pouring your milk

With the steamer wand held horizontally, slowly move it forward from left to right at a 45-degree angle while moving it up and down slightly with your hand. This action will help produce microfoam, a creamy foam that floats on top of your finished espresso cream. It must take about 30 to 40 seconds for the milk to be heated appropriately, resulting in enough foam floating on top of the latte for garnish purposes.

Measure and tamp your coffee.

Tamp the coffee grounds down for about 15 to 20 seconds. Turn the steam valve to release water pressure in the steam wand, thus removing any excess water and help decrease the deposition of unwanted flavours in your espresso shot by preventing over-steaming. You can set your cup on top of the steamer wand, or you can hold it as you usually would with a barista's spoon, such as an X-Cup. Either way, first pour a small amount of cold milk into your mug so that its temperature is close to room temperature before adding hot milk.

Serve it in your mug

With your finger off the trigger, turn the espresso machine's pump back on and pull up slightly on the paddle lever - while still keeping it pressed down as it helps you to extract the espresso into your cup rather than have it go straight down the drain. If you would like more milk in your latte, add a bit of hot water to your mug and continue stepping the process above.
